Colonial Era: Livestock owners were highly respected- Asheik Zarma

At the time of  colonial Era, livestock and their owners were highly respected due to the vital role they have played towards the nation building.

This was made known by the former elected Borno State Governor,Alhaji Asheik Zarma when he received the National president of Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN)Hon. Khalil Mohammed Bello in company of the Chairman of Borno State Chapter of KACRAN,Mallam Sani Imam,his deputy,Modibbo Hassan Buba and Alhaji Auwalu Mohammed who paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Maiduguri,Borno state.

Asheik Zarma said, livestock owners contributed immensely to the development of the country through the payment of huge cattle taxes which was a major source of revenue for the northern region at that particular period.

The former borno state governor who sympathized with the  position of herdsmen in the today's Nigeria added that, at that time grazing reserves and cattle routes were fully protected and totally preserved by Forest guards and cattle rangers to the extent that nobody dared established any settlement on them.

During the historic and highly memorable visit According to the KACRAN National president,Hon Khalil Mohammed Bello,they were impressively briefed about events during the colonial era,when livestock and their owners were  highly respected due to the vital roles they have played towards the nation building.

Khalil Mohammed Bello revealed that,"this is contrary to the painful current state of affairs,when most of the grazing reserves and cattle routes are illegally converted into farms or totally used up for construction of illegal structures".

The KACRAN President used the forum and called on Federal government to hurriedly stop the ungoing burutal kilings of innocent people across the country by  unscrupulous elements.
