The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in partnership with Nigerian emergency management agencies, conducted a full-scale simulation exercise on Monday to test a new Mass Fatality Response Plan, aiming to enhance the country's preparedness for large-scale tragic events. The exercise, organized in collaboration with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), was designed to train frontline responders in managing mass casualty incidents. The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has reported that 4,521 households across the state have been impacted by a devastating series of severe weather events this year 2025. The Executive Secretary of YOSEMA,Dr. Mohammad Goje,disclosed this figure on Monday during a press briefing on the state's flood disaster and preparedness plans. Dr. Goje outlined a chronological progression of the disasters,which began with a destructive windstorm.This was followed by periods of windy rainfall,which transitioned into heavy rainfall, and ultimately resulted in widespread flooding. He further stated that from the end of August into September and October, communities situated near riverbanks became increasingly at risk due to rising water levels and discharge.   Philanthropist Barr. Kashim Musa Tumsah has provided N200,000 in cash support to Muazu Mohammad Bukar,an accident victim receiving treatment for significant injuries including hand fractures at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) in Damaturu.   Muazu was involved in an accident in Benin,Edo State, after sleeping under a stationary trailer. Aishatu Muhammadu, a 72 year old resident of Hausari in Nguru revealed since she was born, this is the first time she enjoyed free medication after Association of Resident Doctors(ARD), Federal Medical Centre Nguru in Yobe state provided free medical outreach to about 2,500 vulnerable persons in the local government area.
