Yobe Gov't holds Citizens dialogue on 2024 budget

Yobe State Ministry of budget and economic planning in collaboration with  network of Yobe state civil society organisations (NYSCO) has Wednesday organised a one day 2024 budget dialogue and stakeholders/citizens engagement to enhance effective service delivery in the state.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, while declaring the dialogue open in Damaturu said his administration considers public opinion in formulating budget proposals as key towards meeting the actual demands of the electorates.

Buni, represented by Secretary to the Yobe state Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali ,said the budget dialogue will also help in identifying key priority areas that require attention.

He commended the ministry of budget and the NYCSO for organizing the event, which he said, is a key to enhancing effective service delivery in the state.

Earlier in her welcome address,the Director Budget from the state Ministry of budget,Hajia Zainab Abdu Sale,said budget is a financial plan of action over a period of time be it weekly, monthly or annually indicating sources of income and it corresponding expenditure.

She stated that, preparation of state budget is a Constitutional requirement under section 121 sub section( 1)which provide that the governor should cost  to be prepared and let before the state house of assembly at any time before the commencement of each financial year estimate of the revenue and expenditure of the state for the next financial year.

She noted that,because of the importance of budget document in the state ,the present administration in the state under  the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni deem it fit to source for inputs from the general public to inform the contents of the annual budget.

"This singular efforts has demonstrated his opened door and people oriented government policies in that its what the citizens needs that is reflected in the annual budget.

"It is my prayer that every individual and stakeholders here present would contribute meaningfully to the success of the occasion",she added.

In his remarks,Yobe State Civil Society Organisation (NYCSO), Comrade Baba Shehu, represented by Comrade Mohammed Baba KuchiChi,Shehu said,the Organisation in partnership with the Yobe State Ministry of Budget,we embark on a journey that exemplifies the true essence of democracy - a partnership where the government and civil society come together to craft a budget that reflects the genuine needs and aspirations of our people. 

Baba Shehu revealed that,this dialogue is not merely an event;it is a reflection of the inclusive and transparent approach we are committed to fostering in the governance of our state.

"As we delve into the discussions today, let us remember the significance of our role.We are the conduits through which the voices of the people are channeled into actionable outcomes.

"Our responsibility transcends mere representation; it is a sacred duty to ensure that every voice is heard,every concern is addressed, and every hope is realised.The 2024 budget is not just a financial document; it is a blueprint for the realisation of the dreams and aspirations of every citizen, regardless of age, gender, or background",he added.
