Plan Int'l intensifies exclusive breastfeeding advocacy in Yobe

In an effort to intensify awareness on the need for exclusive breastfeeding in the state,Plan International a Non Governmental Organisation
(NGO)monday helds an advocacy meeting as part of its activities to marks the closure of the 2023 week long world breastfeeding event in the state.

The meeting which took place at the Organisation's conference hall in damaturu,reiterated its commitment toward achieving a better results in couple of years to come on exclusive breastfeeding in Yobe state.

Nutrition project coordinator,plan International Yobe state,Mr.Ademola Ogunyeme said,the 2023 breastfeeding week with the theme: "Making a difference for working parent",the meeting drew participants cut across plan International staff as well as Stakeholders around yobe Community was part of the support towards exclusive breastfeeding, enabling six months maternity leave for working mothers,introduction of paternity leave as well as a baby friendly work place in the state.

Mr Ogunyeme noted that," Advocacy are still in place and revision of policies to ensure that the state have bring to reality of six(6)months of leave for breastfeeding mothers so that they can actualize their exclusive breastfeeding window period of six months.

"We have implemented nutrition activities in some local government areas in the state,from our own hands of  experience,at least the women are actually coming up towards exclusive breastfeeding but there are still more to be done as most of them are not aware of the benefit of exclusive breastfeeding.

The nutrition project coordinator further said,some of the women are not aware of the benefit of the exclusive breastfeeding hence the need for creating awareness on the importance attached to exclusive breastfeeding in the state.

"And that is why as part of our activities we are trying to incorporate proventive activities which includes; educating the women on the need of exclusive breastfeeding.

"In our own efforts with that of Yobe state Government which we know they are taking a very good lead in promoting breastfeeding among women in the state",he added.
