Flood,NRCS to take proactive measures in Yobe

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) in Yobe State is planning to conduct an awareness campaign and advocacy to prevent potential flooding this rainy season.

Last year, the region experienced significant damage from floods, prompting the NRCS to take proactive measures this year.

The NRCS has identified various stakeholders, such as the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and state-owned media organizations, to collaborate on raising awareness about the dangers of flooding and the need to prevent it.

According to statistics from Yobe SEMA, over 31,000 households across 255 communities were affected by floods last year.

The NRCS plans to target traditional and religious leaders in communities, as well as areas that were severely affected last year, to emphasize the importance of clearing blocked drainages and avoiding living near waterways.

The goal is to minimize losses and mitigate the impact of potential flooding in Yobe State.
