Yobe encourage Mothers to sustain exclusive breastfeeding

As Nigeria joined the international community to mark the 2023 world breastfeeding week,here in the North East region ,Yobe state government has encourage Mothers in the state to sustain the first 6 month exclusive breastfeeding method in the state.
This year's celebration which has a theme" Enable Breastfeeding -Making a Difference for working parents",was observed Wednesday at Dogon Zare Primary healthcare facilities in Potiskum by Yobe state government,supported by Family Health International(fhi360)Alive & Thrive.
Speaking at the event,the Executive Secretary,Yobe state primary health care management board,Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina said,the day serve to encourage breastfeeding and Improve the health of babies around the world.
He noted that over the years,Yobe state government through the state Primary Healthcare Management Board(PHCMB),with the support from partners has keyed into the annual event fostering the adoption of optimal breastfeeding practices amongst women in service and Communities across the state.
He further revealed that,"Theme of this year's breastfeeding week will give way to support mothers to sustain exclusive breastfeeding and also encourage the Breastfeeding supporters to support mothers in ensuring that children are exclusively breastfed in their first 6 month of live without giving any other thing even water or drugs unless on medical prescription".
He called on all the parent,caregivers traditional and religious leaders, partners and other private sector actors to advocate and help support mothers in ensuring that children are exclusively breastfeed in Yobe state.
Earlier flagging-off the 2023 breastfeeding week in the state ,the permanent secretary Yobe state ministry of health, Alhaji Mohammed Jawa said the event is an attempt to reduce the mobility and mortality to both mothers and children in the state.
"Yobe state government and other stakeholders recognised the important of this day and implored all mothers to exclusively breastfeed their children till the age of 6 month ",said Mohammed Jawa.

State Team Lead FHI360 Alive and Thrive,Japheth Boss on behalf of partners congratulated Yobe state government for the considerable progress made in sustaining upward trend in breastfeeding coverage in the state.
Boss stated that, there is no doubt that this a testament to the Governors excellent and people centred leadership as exemplified by the inclusive and result oriented management style of Dr Mohammad Lawan Gana.
"This year’s World Breastfeeding Week theme Enabling Breastfeeding making a difference for working parent is a clarion call to consolidate the gains by formalizing 6 months maternity leave and scale up more functional creches and breastfeeding or lactations room in workspaces in public and private sector across the state.
"On behalf of all partner to renew our commitment to fruitful partnership and collaboration in protecting and promoting breastfeeding, advocating for supportive policies, baby friendly workspaces and empowering parents with the knowledge and resources they need to sustain optimal breastfeeding behaviours and practices and positive norms in our communities.
