NNPC,Chevron donates mother,child referral centres to Yobe LGAs

Yobe state in North East Nigeria is one the states in the region that has continued to suffer the Boko Haram carnage.
The activities of the terrorists have led to the destruction of medical facilities and in upsurge in migration.
All these,coupled with the increasing population have therefore negatively impacted access to healthcare across the state.
It is in efforts to bridge the yawning gaps and strengthen health provision across the insurgency ravaged state that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Limited, and Chevron Nigeria Limited joint venture took the initiative to constructs the Mother and Child Referral Centres in four(4) local government areas of the state.
The benefited local governments were;Yusufari,Yunusari,Fika and Damaturu responsibility.
The 40-beds capacity Mother and Child referral centres across the four (4),Yobe LGAs was awarded to UKJ Consultants ,McMATTHY,Decintext Nigeria Limited and Backspoint Limited respectively.
In Yunusari Local Government,the Forty-beds capacity Mother and Child referral hospital has all the required modern equipments such as X-Ray machine, incubators, theatre machines installed at theatre 1 and 2.
Also, stationary and movable patient-beds,blood storage facilities,CCTV Cameras with a well equipped control room as well as a Paediatric ward,Pre and post Natal sections, a standby generator among other facilities have been provided in the center.
Similarly, the Mother and child referral center in Yusufari Local Government has been completed with the installation of the state of the art facilities and equipment.
Another referral centers in Fika and Damaturu local government areas have been completed and provided with all the required equipments and are ready for take off.
Yobe state Governor,Mai Mala Buni on thursday was formally Commissioned the mother and child referral centres across the four benefited Local government areas in the state.
Represented by his Deputy,Hon Idi Barde Gubana who explained that the occasion signifies an important gesture by Chevron Nigeria limited operator of the NNPC /CNC JV to assist Yobe state government in realizing the objectives the state set out to achieve in health sector.
Buni expressed appreciation and good will of people of Yobe state to Chevron Nigeria limited and the NNPC for jointly donating Four (4) Maternal and child Health centres to the state Government located at University Teaching Hospital Damaturu, General Hospital Yunusari,Yusufari and Fika local governments respectively.
He said, government procured and distributed over 1000 customized tricycle ambulances for hard to reach PHC centres for easy conveyence of women in labour from communities and between facilities.
The Governor added that government also constructed and equipped 138 out of the total of 178 primary health clinics to be established in each of the 178 electoral wards in the state towards attaining the sustainable development goals target, among others.
Earlier the Chief Managing Director Chevron Nigeria limited and Managing Director upstream investment said the gesture is part of their social intervention project in support of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Yobe state.
Also speaking, the senior special assistant to the Governor on health, Dr Mohammad Lawan Gana maintained that such support and assistance rendered to the state by development partners and some corporate bodies are complementing the effort of the state government in re- positioning of the health care system resulting in the positive impact so far made on the wellbeing of the people after several years of insurgency.
