Yobe:Buni flags off training for 50 SMEs on soft skills development

Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, Wednesday, flagged off a training for 50 small scale entrepreneurs on soft skills development in Damaturu, organised by Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, Governor Buni said his administration has made empowerment of the youth and women as its cardinal priority.

Buni noted that the event was designed as a train-the-trainer workshop for 50 participants in 10-type small and medium scale businesses including furniture-making, catering, tailoring/fashion design, auto technicians, electronic technicians, food processing, poultry, aquaculture, animal husbandry and building industry. 

“At the end of the training, participants are expected to be well trained and each capable of training one person and continuously for the knowledge acquired to spread among the existing small and medium enterprises in the form of revolving cycle of train-the-trainers programme for increased productivity and wealth creation in the State,” Governor Buni stated.



In his remarks,the Director General/CEO of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation,Engineer Abubakar Gambo Umar said Yobe state was the first beneficiary of the meticulously designed training programme aimed at enhancing the quality and sustainability of existing businesses in the state. 

Engineer Umar stated that,they recognised many businesses in Northern Nigeria possess commendable hard skills but often lack the essential soft skills necessary for their holistic growth and global competitiveness.

"It is worth noting that SMEs play a crucial role in our region's economy, contributing to job creation, income generation,and overall economic growth.However,a significant percentage of SMEs face challenges and may not survive beyond the initial 5 years of operation. 

"With proper planning, effective strategies and support,which include training programmes of this nature, many SMEs can overcome these challenges and achieve long-term sustainability".

Earlier in his welcome address,the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation,Hon.Abdullahi Bego said,the training was in line  with Governor Buni's vision of making people of the state more economically viable for better progress.

He further revealed that,Buni has special passion in empowering people especially that many businesses and means of livelihood were being destroyed due to activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the state.

"Since from the creation of yobe state over 30 years ago this is the first time that a Ministry was created to cater for the empowerment of the people through small scale business in the state",said Bego.
