Yobe:SAT Paid Advocacy Visit to District Head of Ngilawa



State Accountability and Advocacy Team (SAT) has paid an advocacy visit to the District Head of Ngilawa in Nguru Local Government Area.

The advocacy visit aimed to identified issues around, communal Clash between Afunori and Ruggar Baggi Communities,need for additional Health Workers and Provision of Malaria Drugs and SP Tablet .

The state advocacy team paid advocacy visit to Alhaji Zannah Maidala Abdu the District Head of Ngilawa Nguru Local Government area on the above listed issues identified by Freedom Initiative for the Advancement of Humanity and Community Initiative for Peace and Development Foundation during the month of June and July activities in the communities.

 It was identified by Community Initiative in the month of July started to follow up and resolve the issue between the community of Afunori and Ruggar which was as a result of malam Hashimum Ibrahim invaded on of the Afunori community members farm with his cattle and damage some portion of his farmland where he planted rice.


He demanded for the community leader in Afunori to take the matter and pay him the damage done in his farm but the issues was not address and after some series of confrontation between the son of Alhaji Hashimu and the sons of the cattle owner that meet the son of the farmer and mercilessly beat him and this has turn to an issue between the two neighbouring communities which affected the Ruggar Baggi from assessing healthcare services and commercial activities at Afunori community. 

During the time of implementation for the month of June/July Community Initiative have tried to resolve the issue but all efforts was to no avail hence the reason for the advocacy visit to the Distrcit Head of Ngilawa who instantly summon the community leaders of the two settlemnts Afunori and Ruggar Baggi Bulama Hashim and Hassan Musa Afunori Community Leaders and asked them the route cause of the clashes bweteen them where they all narrated the same story to the District head and all the advocacy team including the facility in charge of Afunori PHC Maryama Lawan.

The district head pleaded with the community members to ensure controlling their followers and all other person connect to this comflict and end this issue for all because there is no point holding such issue that can affect next generation of the two communities and even effecting the health wellbeing of the Ruggar Baggi settlement and they instantly assured to him that they will end the issue.The District Head has during the meeting threatens to remove them as community leaders if the failed to honour and address the issue for the last time and he requested from the facility head of Afunori PHC to notify the District Head in two days if there is no clients visiting Afunori PHC for healthcare services. 

He thanked the advocacy team and the CBOs for their effort in resolving issues for good health of Nguru and all communities of implementation.

On the issue of additional health workers and the stock out of SP for the pregnant women,he pointed that the facility in charge to provide him with the budget that can support the facility to have the commodities so that there will be no stockout and the SP can be purchase from Damaturu to the facility.

While the healthcare services providers she said that they cannot engage staff for the facility because it is the responsibility of the state and the primary healthcare Board because it involved identified those that are qualified health workers that can perform healthcare services delivery.

The assured to call the Executive Secretary PHC,Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina who is his close friend during their youthful age to remind him of the need to have additional health workers at the facility.

He finally appreciate the effort of all the advocacy team and the CAT members working in Nguru LGA and further action to double up their effort in conducting activities and resolving issues so that the healthcare services provision in the LGA can be improved.
