Yobe stakeholders move to foster safe financing in schools




Determined to ensure safety and security in Yobe schools, stakeholders on Wednesday met in Damaturu on how to ensure violence-free schools.

Participants were drawn from the Ministry of Education, Budget Planning, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Security Agencies NOA,SEMA, SBMC,Media,NYCSO,PTA,Persons with Disability,National and International partners,among others.

Speaking at the event,Yobe state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary School Education, Professor,Abba Sani Adam,said the ministry in its approved 2024 budged has what is allocated to school safety.

Represented by the Director Personnel management of the ministry, Ibrahim Audu Idriss,the commissioner stated that,security and safety in schools is key and added that without safety in schools, teaching and learning would not be achieved.

In his remarks,the executive director, North East Youths Initiative for Development (NEYIE), Comrade Dauda Mohammed,said the engagement is to validate the review of national policy on safety,security and violence free schools in Nigeria.

Dauda further revealed that,they have started the review two weeks ago,engaging different stakeholders from all sectors of education and including parents and other stakeholders in the state.

"We have a role to play in ensuring safety and security of pupils, students and youth in schools and other places of learning.

"The policy is to prevent mishaps that happened previously as Yobe is one of the states that affected by violent attacks, affecting about five schools induding GSS Mamudo,GSS Damaturu, GSŤC Potiskum, FGC Buni Yadi and Collage of Agriculture, Gujba to Dapchi School Girls".
