Buni chaired security meeting to review,address ongoing protests
Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni,has on Tuesday led a meeting with heads of security agencies to assess the security situation in response to the nationwide protests.
In a statement by the Director-General, Media and Press Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed, conveyed Governor Buni's appreciation for the security agencies' handling of the situation with maturity and professionalism.
According to the statement,the council expressed concern over the emergence of hoodlums and criminals taking advantage of the protests to vandalize and loot government and private properties in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru, prompting the imposition of a curfew in these areas.
The statement read apart "Parents and guardians were urged by the council to closely supervise their children and prevent them from being manipulated into engaging in destructive activities.
"Traditional rulers, religious leaders,and opinion influencers were called upon by the council to promote peace, harmony, and support government initiatives aimed at fostering peace and security throughout the state.
"Acknowledging the importance of community involvement in maintaining peace, the council emphasized the need for citizens to provide security agencies with timely and relevant information regarding suspicious individuals and activities in their communities.
"The public advised to remain vigilant and report any instances of illegal activities, such as the trafficking, sale, and use of prohibited substances".
Governor Buni reassured the security agencies of the state government's unwavering support and emphasized the necessity of a proactive approach to prevent the resurgence of violence and insecurity in the state.
The Governor urged the security heads to increased commitment to ensuring lasting security throughout the state.
Following a thorough evaluation and notable progress in the security situation in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru,the Governor approved a revision of the curfew hours,now set from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. effective wednesday, August 7th, 2024.
