75th Anniversary:W.H.O supports 257 Orphans in Yobe Community

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has pledged to provide periodic healthcare and non-healthcare support for vulnerable orphans identified in orphanage homes as well as vulnerable persons in Yobe state.

The State Coordinator of the W.H.O in the state, Doctor Nuhu Barau Ningi disclosed while presenting nutritional food and non-food items to 257 orphans at YETIM Care Foundation in Damaturu the capital.

Doctor Barau explained the gesture is part of the commemoration of the seventy fifth anniversary of the W.H.O in which they had been providing governments with support to free communities from all sorts of pandemic.

“You should not lose hope, we have seen your condition, therefore WHO as an organization we will periodically visit you and provide you with essentials needs” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Coordinator of the Foundation Muhammad Gambo who represented the Board of Directors, revealed the orphanage has 257 pupils in which the younger ones numbering 80 reside in the centre while the others with their guardians.

Gambo explains since the establishment of the Orphanage in 2006, it had depended solely on the Yobe State Government in terms of feedings, infrastructure, healthcare and teachers’ allowance until a few years back in which partners came in.

He therefore urged groups and meaningful individuals to support the Orphanage noting, many of the orphans have graduated and have either been employed by the state government or been self-employed.

A team from the Foundation mandated to carry out the payment set out in the early hours of Wednesday, 11th March 2026, visiting each of the 21 schools for the exercise.  The team first visited the Chana community and later proceeded to Godowoli and other villages, ending the exercise in Gadaka. Three volunteers in each of the schools were given the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira to cover their monthly stipends. Yobe L-PRES Project Hands Over Livestock Market to Geidam Community

By Yusuf A Yusuf, Damaturu  The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), a World Bank-funded program, has commissioned and handed over a modern livestock market to the Geidam local government area of Yobe State.  The market, located at the Nigeria-Niger border, is expected to boost livestock trade between the two countries and create jobs. The market covers a 400m x 400m area, with features including perimeter fencing, gates, security outpost, veterinary clinic, administrative block, solar-powered boreholes, and drinking points. Other amenities include loading and off-loading ramps, toilets, and a livestock weighing scale. Project Coordinator Adama Hussaini Madaki said the market would strengthen livestock trade and improve revenue generation. Yobe APC Exco Receive National Party Chairman Ganduje
