By Yusuf A. Yusuf, Damaturu

The troops of Headquarters Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) held a send-forth dinner on Monday night to honor their outgoing Sector Commander, Major General Marcel, who has been posted to another office in Abuja.

Speaking at the send-forth dinner in Damaturu, the Sector 2 OPHK Chief of Staff, Brigadier General AI Getso, said, "Major General Marcel Ejike is a professional infantry officer who commanded the sector for over a year and brought a level of peace that people are now enjoying in Damaturu and some parts of Borno State covered by the sector.
"He has done a lot for Yobe and Borno States, where he served as Brigade Commander of the 25 Brigade in Damboa. Now, it is time for him to move ahead and take up another responsibility.

"The Army has posted another seasoned professional infantry officer to continue moving the sector forward. Therefore, it is on this note that we decided to organize this event to honor and celebrate Major General Marcel."

In his remarks, the outgoing Sector 2 OPHK Commander, Major General Marcel, thanked everyone for the cooperation and assistance given to him throughout his time serving in Yobe State.

"I truly enjoyed my stay here. But as the saying goes, ‘Soldiers come, soldiers go, but power remains with you.’ I must move forward, and I will never forget your support because I achieved my goals here.

"I reported here as a Brigadier General, and today I am leaving as a Major General. That is a great achievement.

"So, I assure you that the person taking over for me, Brigadier General Martins, is more or less like me. I know what he can do. I have briefed him and told him what he needs to do to succeed. I am 100% sure he will succeed," he said.

Earlier in his remarks, the incoming Sector 2 Commander, Brigadier General Beyidi Martins, congratulated Major General Marcel, stressing that anyone who handles Sector 2 OPHK and leaves the place in peace, with the kind of people recognizing and acknowledging all manner of achievements and personal encounters, is worth celebrating.

He assured the former commander that he would attempt to fill his shoes. "It is evident from the various remarks made by everyone here in this gathering that you mean a lot to us. You are a humanitarian par excellence, a very unusual kind of combatant soldier," said the incoming Sector 2 OPHK Commander.
