The Yobe State Government has constructed two hundred and twenty-five kilometers (225 km)of rural  roads under the first phase of Governor Mai Mala Buni's infrastructural development program.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Works, Engr. Umaru Wakili, during a review meeting on Friday at his office in Damaturu, the state capital.

The Works Commissioner explained that the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni has expended significant resources on the construction of new rural and semi-urban roads, as well as drainages in Damaturu, the state capital, and major towns such as Potiskum, Nguru, Gashua, Geidam, and Buni Yadi.
"This is to facilitate the easy movement of goods and services from the hinterland to urban centers, as well as to reduce rural-to-urban migration and overcrowding in city centers," he said.

"The provision of good road networks will open up rural communities and urban centers, attracting direct foreign capital investments that will accelerate the economic growth of the state," the Works Commissioner added.

He stated that the Buni administration has constructed eighty kilometers (80 km) of township roads and one hundred and sixty kilometers (160 km)of drainages within the major towns of Potiskum, Nguru, Gashua, Geidam, Buni Yadi, and Damaturu, the state capital. Additionally, the administration has rehabilitated one hundred and ninety-six kilometers (196 km)of roads across the state.

According to the Works Commissioner, the Buni administration has also undertaken the construction of several semi-urban roads covering twenty-two kilometers (22 km)and forty-four kilometers (44 km) of drainages in the headquarters of the seventeen (17) local government councils in Yobe State.
