2024:Yobe fixes May 25th to hold Council Election

Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission(YSIEC)has set aside May 25,2024,for the conduct of local government council election in the state.

Dr.Mamman Mohammad,Executive Chairman Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC)made this known Wednesday during a meeting with leadership of political parties and stakeholders in damaturu.

Dr.Mamman said that,Governor Mai Mala Buni has gave the approval to the state independent electoral Commission to adjust the date of election for the 17 Chairmen and 178 Councilors of the local Governments council in Yobe State to be on 25th May,2024.

According to him,that is in consonance with the provision of section 197 of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

He revealed that, political parties will be issued with election guidelines to enable them fill in suitable candidate of quality repute and substance which will yield good governance in the grassroots level.

He noted that,"The State Independent Electoral Commission will therefore take responsibility to undertake, organise and supervise the local government council election which according to him shall be free fair,credible and peaceful.

Dr.Mamman Mohammed further revealed that,"All Yobians are eligible to contest for Councillorship and the Chairmanship after attaining the age of 25 and 30 without gender bias,sane not bankrupt,and resident
in the local community.

"Candidates must also possess the minimum educational qualification of secondary school certificate or its equivalence, and must undergo security screening,with a fee of N300,000, 250,000 and N200,000 for chairmanship,vice-chairmanship and councilors aspirants,"Said the Dr Mohamed.
