On Safe Motherhood Day, family planning champions in Yobe State have expressed their appreciation for the government’s ongoing initiatives aimed at improving maternal health and healthcare delivery.
The celebration of Safe Motherhood Day highlights the critical importance of ensuring safe pregnancies, skilled attendance during childbirth, and access to essential reproductive health services.
According to a statement signed by the team’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Isah Abba, the state government has made significant strides in primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare systems, leading to improved health indicators across the board.
The team commended the government’s partnership with national and international non-governmental organizations, including The Challenge Initiative (TCI), which has helped accelerate progress in key areas such as family planning, maternal health, and neonatal and newborn care.
The statement noted that Yobe State’s collaboration with TCI has enhanced safe practices in childbirth spacing, with indicators showing increased acceptability of family planning among rural women.
It read apart, this improvement is attributed to the availability of consumables at health facilities, health talks during antenatal care, medical outreach to rural areas, and media advocacy.
The Yobe Family Planning Media Advocacy Team is calling for increased engagement with stakeholders, including traditional, religious, and community leaders, to promote safe childbirth spacing practices in the state.
Leveraging the 2025 theme for safe motherhood, the team is urging stakeholders to collaborate to end preventable deaths and prioritize women’s long-term well-being.
