Concern Group Calls for Repairs on Damaged Kano-Maiduguri Highway
By Yusuf A. Yusuf, Damaturu
A concern group in Yobe state on Wednesday called on relevant authorities to repair the federal highway connecting Kano to Maiduguri, particularly the section between Malori and Guskuri villages that sustained severe damage during last year's rainy season.
Several local government areas in Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Borno states were also affected during last year's rainy season.
All stakeholders from the affected states should join hands to ensure that the damaged sections are repaired before this year's rainy season. Collaborative efforts, timely interventions, and necessary resources must be mobilized to prevent further damage and safeguard the well-being of the people.
Last year's floods created a large crater in the middle of the road, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes. With the current state of disrepair, authorities must note that this year's rainy season is fast approaching.
If a contract is awarded for road reconstruction, it is crucial to monitor the project's progress to prevent another washout. Proper construction materials and timely execution must be prioritized to ensure durability and resilience against heavy rains.
We urge the federal government to urgently repair the roads linking Nigeria's Northwest and Northeast regions. This is a call for action to prevent further deterioration, avoid another road washout, and minimize disruptions to transportation and economic activities.
Delays in repairs could lead to another washout, creating more hardship for commuters and businesses this year.
