NGO hands over borehole,latrine, classrooms to Yobe community

A non-governmental organisation,
Save the Children International
(SCI) in partnership with Life At Best
Development Initiative (LABDI)
with funding from European Civil
Protection and Humanitarian and
Protection (ECHO), Tuesday, handed
over borehole, latrine, class rooms to Garin Itace community of Gujba LGA
of Yobe state.
The field manager, SCI Yobe office,
Mr Dennis Elisha Dibal, said the
project aims to strengthen access to and improve the quality of basic education and children protection in emergencies in Northeast Nigeria.
He stated that the projects were
developed with the involvement of key government stakeholders, including the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Ministry of Health.
“We have successfully rehabilitated
and upgraded a borehole facility,
providing vital water resources not only for the schoolchildren but for the entire community.
“In addition to the improved water supply, Save the Children has also constructed latrines to ensure proper sanitation services for the students, further contributing to a safe and conducive learning environment.
“SCI established temporary learning
spaces that will prepare children from the Alternative Basic Education Programme (ABEP) for integration into the formal education system,” Elisha said.He stated the importance of community involvement in sustaining the projects.
The Education Secretary for Gujba LGA, Ali Adamu Jajere, expressed his gratitude and joy regarding the support provided by Save the Children.
“I am extremely happy, in fact, I’m the happiest person because they selected my local government as a model.Truly, I am deeply grateful,” he stated.
He also urged the community members to oversee the solar-powered borehole diligently, emphasizing its sustainability and the necessity of constant supervision.
