In an effort to revitalize the education sector, Yobe state government in partnership with Yobe Peace and Community Development Initiative (YOPCODI) in consortium with African Youth for Peace Development and Empowerment Foundation (AFRYDEV) have trained and graduated 100 Out-Of-School Adolescent Girls in Digital Literacy.
The programme which is supported by the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund targeted girls who were mainstreamed into the formal education in Geidam and Bade local government areas of the state.
Kurgunam Nuhu, Programme Coordinator, Yobe Peace and Community Development Initiative says the digital literacy is also aimed at equipping the girls to showcase the skills acquired in the social media for patronage by the general public.
“It is the component that has been important in the ongoing education project. It is to help and implement the learning of those adolescent girls in terms of technology for them to get acquainted with computer knowledge to help improve in their businesses and advance their digital literacy so as to compete with their counterparts across the globe” he said.
The Programme officer, Gambo Ali Tarbutu explains, a total of 100 Adolescent girls from Gashua and Geidam benefitted from the training.
“This programme is about literacy learning. We are implementing an education project with funding from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund and we felt it is high time to integrate digital literacy programme into our project implementation where 50 adolescent girls each in Gashua and Geidam were trained on digital marketing, networking etc and today marks the end of their graduation”
At the end of the graduation, certificates and dignity kits were presented to the first, second and third best graduating students as well as starter packs to the others.
