Yobe:VASA study help shape health policies,intervention-NPC

The National Population Commission (NPC) said,the ongoing 2024 Verbal and Social Autopsy Study (VASA) provided valuable information that helped shape health policies and intervention aimed at reducing preventable deaths in Nigeria.

The Federal Commissioner,NPC Borno and Yobe states, Barrister Isa Audu Buratai made this known on thursday during the flagging-off the 2024 VASA study exercise in Damaturu,Yobe State capital.

Buratai said,the VASA study is fellow-up to the 2023-2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey that was concluded in may this year.

He stated that,the survey will go back to NDHS households to ask for information that will help government understand and plan to address the biomedical and social causes of death of children under the age of 5 and for women of reproductive age.

"In Yobe state,we have benefited from the strong collaboration between NPC and Federal Ministry Of Health (FMOH)and our valued partners to successfully implement health -related projects in the past ,and we are confident that this collaboration will once again ensure success for the VASA",said the NPC Yobe Commissioner 

He further revealed that, fieldwork for the study will be conducted in selected Communities throughout the state between 4th November to 15 December 2024.

Isa Buratai called on community leaders to lead their voices in support of the study, encouraging their Communities to welcome the interviewers and participate fully in the process.
