FERMA flags-off zero potholes exercise in Yobe,targets 1,250 Square meters

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has commenced the repair of about 1,250 square meter potholes has commenced the repairs of federal highways along Potiskum-Gombe and Gashua-Nguru highways in Yobe and Gombe states after being damaged or washed away by flood.
The Acting North East (1) Zonal Director, Engineer Abba Baba alongside the Yobe State Field Engineer, Engineer Nura Mohammed Adamu who inspected the progress of work along Potiskum-Gombe and Gashua-Nguru highways revealed the aim is to ease movement of motorists during the festive period and beyond.
“Last year we concentrated on Potiskum-Kari road in Yobe and Bauchi states. This year we are working on Potiskum-Gombe road and Gashua-Nguru road in Yobe state. The aim is to achieve zero potholes that would guarantee accidents free and smooth journeys during the yuletide period” says Engineer Baba.
Earlier in his welcome remarks at the sites of the road repairs, the Yobe State FERMA Field Engineer, Engineer Nura Mohammad Adamu explained a total of 1,250 square meters along the two federal roads are targeted.
“It is a yearly exercise that started last year tagged “Operation Connect Your Destination”. The last we had last year was 1.0 and this one is 2.0 meant to ease the movement of motorists during the December and January festivals”
“We are going to cover 249 square meters along the Potiskum-Gombe road while the Gashua-Nguru road we are going to achieve 20 kilometer zero potholes. Therefore in total, about 1,250 square meters is to be completed along the aforementioned roads”
“The move by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency under our Managing Director, Engineer Chukwuemeka Agbasi is to ensure that road accidents are reduced, because even this morning we saw a vehicle that somersaulted in the process of maneuvering a pothole” he said.
Some drivers plying the roads applauded the federal government for embarking on the maintenance of the roads calling on the federal government to ensure the exercise is a routine one.
