Yobe women lawyers' federation inaugurates new executives
The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Yobe branch, has inaugurated the newly elected executive members of the association in Yobe state.
The inauguration ceremony which was held Thursday at the Ministry of Justice, state secretariat complex in Damaturu, was administered by the chief magistrate, Amina Abubakar Bashir.
The chief magistrate charged the sworn in exco to carry all the female lawyers in the state along and work in line with the FIDA constitution to take the association to the higher level.
Speaking to newsmen, the outgoing chairperson of FIDA, Yobe, Hannatu Farouk Jauro, highlighted some of the association’s achievement which includes; prosecuting many GBV cases with the support of the Ministry of Justice and being able to secure conviction of 1,5,7,10,15,25 years and up to life imprisonment.
“We also see that adequate compensation was given to survivors of GBV and the FIDA Yobe branch were at the forefront through the SARC steering committee to advocate to the CJ for the designation of special court in Yobe state which is now a reality among others,” Hannatu said.
In her acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated chairperson, Aisha Isa pledged to serve as a true servant leader and dedicated herself to champion the rights of women and children in Yobe state.
She further stated that: “I commit to promoting gender equality and provide free legal services to those in need, ensuring that justice and protection are accessible to all.”
The new executive members are: Chairperson: Aisha Isa, vice chairperson, Fatima A Muhammad , secretary, Fatima M Auwal, assistant secretary, Zara I Mustapha and treasurer, Hauwa U Hardo.
