Women of Lake Chad Basin calls for inclusion in decision-making

The network of women organisation for peace, recovery and development in the lake Chad basin has called to the Governors' Forum of the Lake Chad Basin for effective and meaningful inclusion of women in the decision-making processes. 

In a statement by the Secretary General of the women network, Hajiya Husna Ibrahim said,women play a crucial role in the implementation of the Regional Stabilization Strategy (RS-SRS) in the Lake Chad Basin due to their status as mothers, daughters, wives, their numbers, their expertise and contributions in peace process, and their knowledge of the local context.

According the her,the platform provides an avenue to explore and define pathways towards sustainable peace and development in the region,the network of women organisation for network of peace, recovery and development women in the lake Chad basin has called upon the various actors present to focus on aspects of inclusion, accountability, support, and follow-up in the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda in the Lake Chad Basin.

The statement read apart,"the women network is  strengthening the economic empowerment of women, including and people with specific needs through "Strengthen community resilience by effectively supporting women's structural projects, building safe spaces for empowerment, and promoting them in all villages in the Lake Chad Basin territories.

"Combatting Gender-Based Violence (GBV)by establish accessible care centers and secure spaces for victims of gender-based violence (GBV) and their children across the Lake Chad Basin, ensuring the collection of disaggregated data by sex and age to inform effective GBV response strategies prioritization of education and health for women and girls

"The future of communities relies on women's and girls' access to education and health: implement specific initiatives to encourage girls' schooling and reduce early marriage rates, like the SWEED project, MARTAWA ZUROMAYE among others.


Women in the Lake Chad Basin, as direct victims of conflict and key actors in stabilisation, urge the Governors to recognize their strategic role in the implementation of the Stabilization Strategy. These messages emphasize the need for an inclusive, equitable, and resilience-oriented approach towards sustainable peace. We commit to actively participating in all phases of the strategy, ensuring that women's voices are heard and their contributions are valued, to build a more stable and prosperous future for all.
