Project trust:CoPs launches advocacy visit to MDAs in Yobe

The Community of practice (CoPs) under the project trust,project by Connected Development (CODE)with the support of MacArthur Foundation has launched an advocacy visit to lines Ministries,Departments and Agencies in Yobe state.

The advocacy visits by the CoPs team which includes media,civil society organizations (CSOs), community- based organizations (CBOs) barrister and PLWD visited office of the Yobe State Auditor General and that of State Commissioner of water resources. 

During the visit,the CoPs team and the MDAs discussed intensively on the implementation of the constituency projects,as well as importance of promoting transparency and accountability in developmental projects in the state.

The both parties also discussed on the need for effective enforcement of the discrimination of PWD Act 2018.

Speaking during the visit,the, CODE’s Team Lead for Yobe, Mohammed Kime stated that Project Trust which was supported by Macarthur Foundation,is geared towards bringing about social accountability and transparency so that Nigerians can enjoy the dividend of democracy, and to also embark on a journey that holds immense significance in Nigeria’s political system.

According to him, the organisation is centered around the utilization of the iFollowTheMoney model, which aims to equip stakeholders with the skills needed to track financial transactions, encourage transparency, and foster accountability in governance, hence, the visit is a testament to CODE’s commitment to building impactful systems that empower communities.

O his part,Yobe State Auditor General, Mai Aliyu Umar Gulani assured to sustain partnership and collaboration with CODE through openness to ensure that the People will Disability are given equal opportunities to foster transparency and accountability in governance.

He pledged to tender any documents in line with the provision of the Freedom of Information Bill as a supreme body, "we have the power to work without interference, we assure you of our readiness to partner with you always."

He added that whenever the Disability Bill is passed,they will ensure total compliance by MDAs to consider the 5 percent allocation to PLWD.
Also responding,the state Commissioner ministry of water resources,Engr. Usman Ahmed assured the CoPs teams that,the ministry will do it best to see that in most of its activities disability are carried along."we are just waiting for the law in the State.

At the both session,the Chairman Joint National Persons with Disability, Yobe State chapter, Usman Bura Gabai used the forum to appealled to Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni to consider quick and express assent of the Disability Act in the State.
