We‘re prepared for Saturday re-run, by-elections-INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is prepared to conduct the re-run and bye-elections in Yobe state scheduled for Saturday 3th February 2024.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC) Yobe state,Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi made this known Tuesday while briefing journalists on the level of preparations for the 3th February 2024 bye and re-run election for Yobe East and Fika/Fune federal constituency.

Abdullahi said,five(5) political parties are fielding candidates for Yobe East Senatorial bye election in the state which are;ADC,APC APGA,NNPP and PDP while campaigns are presently going on by these parties and by law campaign are to stop 24 hours to the day of election that is 1st February 2024.

He stated that, electoral activities have been planned to take place in eight(8)local government areas.Sevennty-five (75) registration areas and nine hundred and ninety three(993) poling units that make up Yobe East Senatorial constituency and one(1)in Fika town.

"A total of four thousand,two hundred and thirty -two (4232) adhoc staff have been earmarked for deployment.And one thousand,three hundred and thirty -nine (1,339) BVAs machines will be used for accreditation.

"Also training of electoral officials have been conducted from the 23rd -27th of January; starting with that of the supervisory presiding officers(SPO)then the Presiding and Assistant Presiding Officers.

"we have equally engaged with Yobe state critical election stakeholders and relevant information concerning the election had been passed to them for dissention to the general public.

"The Commission had met severally with interagency committee on election security (ICCES) to review and get update on the security of there LGAs,Said the Yobe Residence Electoral Commissioner, Abdullahi.

He further revealed that, polling units will be opened for voting at 8:30 am and shall be closed by 2:30pm and voting closes immediately the last person on the queue must have voted.
