To cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, North-East Development Commission (NEDC) Monday donated 2,080 bags of rice to 20 organisations and tertiary institutions in Yobe state.
Other items donated by NEDC include 2,090 cartons of macaroni, vegetable oil, women wrappers, men and children wears, mats and blankets respectively.
On his remarks at the symbolic presentation of the donated food and non food items in Damaturu, the NEDC coordinator in Yobe state, Dr. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said President Ahmed Bola Tinubu directed that palliatives should be provided to all indigenous people of Nigeria because of the removal of fuel subsidy in the country.
Dr Abbas stated that this was the reason why in the last two weeks, Vice President Kashim Shettima alongside the managing director, NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, invited all North eastern governors including Governor Mai Mala Buni to the flagging-off of the distribution of palliatives to all six states in the region
