IPAC Seeks Postponement Of LG Elections in Yobe

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission to shift the proposed local government elections earlier slated for November this year.

The State Chairman of IPAC, Comrade Bala Mohammed, made the called Tuesday  while briefing journalist  in Damaturu, the state capital,saying the commission should fix a new date after the harvesting period.

Comrade Mohammed stated that, 17 undersigned state chairmen of the various political parties, want the state electoral commission to shift the proposed election for obvious reasons to allow the electorate to actively participate in the exercise.

He said "the reasons is that the rainy season came in very late, saying the rain has intensified with people heavily engaged in farming activities, thus, farmers should be allowed to farm till dry season".

He noted that,this is in the interest of justice and fair play, the state electoral commission should postpone and fix a new date preferably after the harvest to allow the people to actively participate.
