NEDC donates food,non food items to groups,Institutions in Yobe

To cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, North-East Development Commission (NEDC) Monday donated 2,080 bags of rice to 20 organisations and tertiary institutions in Yobe state.

Other items donated by NEDC include 2,090 cartons of macaroni, vegetable oil, women wrappers, men and children wears,mats and blankets respectively.

On his remarks at the symbolic presentation of the donated food and non food items in Damaturu, the NEDC coordinator in Yobe state, Dr. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, said President Ahmed Bola Tinubu directed that palliatives should be provided to all indigenous people of Nigeria because of the removal of fuel subsidy in the country.

Dr Abbas stated that this was the reason why in the last two weeks, Vice President Kashim Shettima alongside the managing director, NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali, invited all North eastern governors including Governor Mai Mala Buni to the flagging-off of the distribution of palliatives to all six states in the region

In his appreciation on the gesture,Yobe State Civil Society Organisation (NYCSO),Comrade Baba Shehu,represented by Comrade Mohammed Baba Kuchichi,Commended the FG and NEDC adding that as representative of citizens groups they are going to  judiciously used the given items and  would strengthen their engagement with the Government.

"We would continue to partner with the Government in identifying the real vulnerable people for distribution of the palliatives in the state,"said Baba Shehu.

Also In his remarks,the Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)Yobe state Council, Comrade Muktar Musa Tarbutu on behalf of the Unions thanked the Federal government for giving them the palliatives to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal across the country.

"NEDC are the one brought the items,we appreciated them and really thanked them for that,i have 26 affiliate in the NLC in Yobe ,each affiliate would be getting this palliatives by God Grace,"said NLC Yobe Chairman.
