Announcing the result, the returning officer for the governorship election, Professor Umar Pate who is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Kashere,Gombe state, said Buni of APC emerged winner having scored the highest votes. Buni scored a total of 317,113 votes to defeated his opponents Alhaji Sheriff Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that polled  104,259 votes and Garba Umar of New Nigerian People's party (NNPP) polled 14,246 votes as well. By Yusuf A Yusuf, Damaturu  Governor Mai Mala Buni,  has approved the secondment and deployment of 2670 staff to the Ministry of Environment to serve as Coordinators and Supervisors. The staff drawn from the 17 local governments councils are to serve in the newly established Climate Change Adaptation Project. According to the commissioner for Environment, Alh. Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa  said 15 coordinators and supervisors are to serve in each of  the 178 wards of  the state. The Climate Change Adaptation Project would be executing various activities to check the challenges of climate change. He explained that the massive deployment of staff to the project was to effectively check the menace of the climate change in the state. "We are determined to confront the menace to boost agriculture, ensure food safety and security" he said. The loan which is to be distributed in two phases is to equip the teachers to prepare and participate in the 2023 cropping season effectively. Each of the 4,000 teachers is to receive the sum of  N120,000 to engage in agricultural production. Governor Buni advised the beneficiaries to use the support judiciously for the intended purpose.
