The ongoing Damaturu flyover project has reached over 93 percent completion and will be opened to traffic before the end of May, the construction firm handling the project has announced.

Mr Fadi Abi Aad, Area Manager of Triacta Construction Company, disclosed this on Saturday during an inspection visit to roads and other critical infrastructure projects being executed by the Yobe State Government.

According to Abi Aad, the continuation of the flyover and underpass project has also attained more than 30 percent completion, with a target to finish all works by December 2026.

"Hopefully, all the area will be completed within the stipulated period," he said.

He explained that workers are currently laying asphalt after completing retaining walls, earthworks, laterite filling, and compaction. "After the asphalt binder, we will construct walkways and carry out painting and other finishing works," he added.

Abi Aad commended the Yobe Ministry of Works and Governor Mai Mala Buni's administration for supporting the project through prompt release of funds.

He noted that the flyover is designed to last for at least 50 years.

Builder Hassan Musa Ibrahim, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Yobe Ministry of Works, said the contract was awarded on February 21, 2025, with additional expansion works introduced later.

According to him,the extension covers dualisation from the flyover axis to the August 27 Stadium, spanning about 6.6 kilometres on both sides with walkways and green areas.

Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, stating that the government has paid 50 percent mobilisation and additional payments based on certified work done.

Meanwhile, Comrade Rajab Ismail Muhammed, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, also expressed satisfaction with the project's execution, saying, "Honestly, even though I am not an engineer, I am satisfied with the quality and level of execution of the projects."
