The Yobe First Movement, a forum for peace and development in Yobe State, has called for the immediate resignation of the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over allegations of compromised neutrality ahead of the party’s primaries.

The group made the demand on Wednesday during a press briefing in Damaturu, the state capital.

The Director General of the movement,Lawan M.Ibrahim expressed grave concern over what he described as a breach of impartiality by the APC chairman.
He alleged that the chairman recently appeared publicly alongside former Governor and Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam and Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni to endorse and raise the hand of a governorship aspirant,Baba Mallam Wali even before the aspirant had purchased his nomination form.

The DG described the action as a unilateral endorsement and an attempt to impose a preferred candidate on the ballot.

"The office of the State Chairman is expected to maintain strict neutrality as an unbiased umpire in party primaries and electoral processes for leadership selection

"By openly identifying with a particular aspirant, he compromises the confidence of party members in the fairness, openness, and democratic integrity of the process,"said Mr.Ibrahim

To restore trust and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants, the movement called on the chairman to either resign or recuse himself from all party activities with immediate effect.

The group cited the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, the APC Constitution, and other relevant laws.

"The party must demonstrate that no individual is bigger than its rules and that internal democracy remains sacrosanct.

"Your voluntary resignation will help de-escalate tension and assure all aspirants and members that the primaries will be transparent, free, fair, and credible. We trust you will act in the best interest of the party, Yobe State, and democracy," the DG added.
