President Tinubu Inaugurates Buni’s Agricultural Empowerment Initiative to Boost Food Security

By Yusuf A Yusuf, Damaturu  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Yobe State government for massively investing in agriculture to guarantee food sufficiency and security in the state.  He stated this Tuesday at the launching of the state's Agricultural Empowerment Programme in Damaturu.  Tinubu, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, said the Yobe state agricultural empowerment programme was in tune with the renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal government.  He assured federal government's partnership to improve agricultural productivity in the state.  Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni, said the state government procured 40 Massey Ferguson tractors, 1,961 Power Tillers, 1,250 Hand Push Planters, 553 Multi-Purpose Threshers, 3,410 Solar water pumps, 830 Fertilizer Applicator, 4,500 bags of NPK 20:10:10 Fertilizer and 195 Crop Residue crushers.  Similarly,  495 Cr...

ASUU Yobe Varsity Calls Off Strike Action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University Branch,has officially called off its two-week-old strike following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Yobe State Government.   This was contained in a statement issued by the ASUU Yobe State University Branch Chairman, Comrade Ahmed Ibrahim Karage, and made available to journalists in Damaturu on Tuesday.   According to the statement, the decision to suspend the industrial action came after the union’s National President granted approval, following the transmission of the MoU by the zonal coordinator.  "By this approval,the strike action embarked upon on 11th July 2025 is hereby called off,” the statement declared.   Comrade Karage further urged all academic staff to resume work immediately, emphasizing the need to reciprocate the state government’s commitment by making up for the two weeks lost during the strike period.   The developme...

Police arrest man for assaulting female health worker in Yobe

By Yusuf A Yusuf,Damaturu  The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Usman Ahmed, for physically assaulting a female health worker at the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred after a disagreement over the provision of medical attention, during which the suspect reportedly attacked the female health worker with a stick. Responding swiftly to a distress call from hospital security, officers from the ‘C’ Division of the Police Command mobilised to the scene and apprehended the suspect. He is currently facing prosecution in court. Condemning the assault,the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, described the act as unacceptable and warned the public against resorting to violence. MEDCI team inspects Yobe road project firsthand

Yusuf, Damaturu The Media and Disability Care Initiative (MEDCI) embarked on an inspection tour of the 2.5 kilometers Potiskum-Ngojin road construction in Potiskum Local Government Area and 5 kilometers Fadawa-Daya road construction in Fika Local Government Area in Yobe State to assess its condition and progress.
