The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University Branch,has officially called off its two-week-old strike following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Yobe State Government.   This was contained in a statement issued by the ASUU Yobe State University Branch Chairman, Comrade Ahmed Ibrahim Karage, and made available to journalists in Damaturu on Tuesday.   According to the statement, the decision to suspend the industrial action came after the union’s National President granted approval, following the transmission of the MoU by the zonal coordinator.  "By this approval,the strike action embarked upon on 11th July 2025 is hereby called off,” the statement declared.   Comrade Karage further urged all academic staff to resume work immediately, emphasizing the need to reciprocate the state government’s commitment by making up for the two weeks lost during the strike period.   The developme...

By Yusuf A Yusuf,Damaturu  The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Usman Ahmed, for physically assaulting a female health worker at the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred after a disagreement over the provision of medical attention, during which the suspect reportedly attacked the female health worker with a stick. Responding swiftly to a distress call from hospital security, officers from the ‘C’ Division of the Police Command mobilised to the scene and apprehended the suspect. He is currently facing prosecution in court. Condemning the assault,the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, described the act as unacceptable and warned the public against resorting to violence.
