Red Cross embarks on diphtheria awareness campaign in Yobe

The Nigerian Red Cross Society in partnership with Federal Government ,Yobe State Government and other development partners have on Friday organized a one day stakeholders sensitization campaign on diphtheria disease in Yobe state.

The Acting Secretary,Nigerian Red Cross Society,Yobe state Branch,Dr Sabo Saleh Dagona said,the purpose of the campaign with the stakeholders in the state is to create awareness among key stakeholders on the ongoing diphtheria sensitization campaign ongoing nation wide.

He further revealed that, diphtheria is currently affecting people in some different part of the state and therefore the need for sensitizing the people to come and be aware of what the disease is,how getting contacted and how people can prevent themselves from being affected from the disease.

"We want to sensitize the stakeholders we have invited on the disease that its called diphtheria, what are the signs of the disease,its symptoms ,how do we prevent our selves from the event some one has caught the disease and then the generally we took about how hygiene activities usually affect the contact of the disease.

Dr. Dagona further stated that,Yobe state government along the other development partners are doing all their best in order to see that the spread of the disease is stopped and those that are affected are currently receiving treatment in different health facilities across the state.

"For this sensitization,we have about seven organizations, which includes; traditional rulers,religious leaders, Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Federation of Muslims women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN)Jama'atul Nasrul Islam among other organization.

He noted that,their expectations from the stakeholders is to share the knowledge obtained down to the people they are representing.
