OISD trains Women Journalists on equity,equality for women in Yobe
The Organization for Innovation and Sustainable Development(OISD) has Organized a 3- day training for female journalists in Yobe State.
The training which was sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy tagged "SHE EXISTS" promoting equity and equal opportunities for women in media was aimed to train Female Journalist in North-east Nigeria which are Adamawa,Gombe, Taraba, Bauchi, Yobe and Borno.
The training drew 35 participants across the States and was held at Royalton Halls and event centre Damaturu,Yobe State.
In his welcome address,the Executive Director OISD Mr Jamilu Yusuf advised the participants to make good use of the training.
He stated that "SHE EXISTS is not just a program; it is a commitment to change, a dedication to breaking barriers, and a testament to the resilience of women in media.
" Our journey has been one of collaboration, shared learning, and the collective effort to foster gender-sensitive reporting and equitable representation in journalism",said Jamilu.
On his remarks,the Senior Information Specialist of the U.S. Embassy Dr Aishah A. Gambari welcomed all the participants sand assured them that the training will be of benefit to them and also plea with them to put into practice what they are to learn to change the narratives where gender inclusive would be achieved.
On his part,the Chairman Nigerian Union of Journalists Yobe State Council (NUJ) Comrade Rajab Muhammad in his remark thanked the organizers for organizing such training and also called on the participants to pay attention and make use of it.
Speaking on behalf of the participants,the Chairperson Nigeria Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) Yobe State, Fatima Muhammad Ahmed said the training has created avenue for sharing of ideas experiences,discussed challenges women face in the media industry and the way forward to change the narrative and advocate for more women in managerial and editorial positions so as to participate in decision makings and manipulate the contents of the media to ensure gender balance.
She appreciated the NAWOJ national Secretariat for tapping such opportunity for female journalists in the North East,noting that such will greatly go along way in solving women problems in the region.
papers were presented during the training on the topics;"Ethics of gender sensitivity reporting in the media, The Application of using ICT in Modern Journalism,importance of women leadership in media stations in Nigeria,Underrepresentation of women in Nigerian Media and Ethics of sexual and gender based reporting respectively.
Also Certificates were issued to participants at the end of the training.
