Yobe Seek UNDP's Support in developing 10-year Dev't Plan

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has requested the Support of the  United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP) in developing a comprehensive 10-year Development Plan with a clear fiscal roadmap linking the humanitarian-development Nexus.

The Governor made the request Tuesday when he received a high-powered delegation from UNDP led by the Resident Representative, Mohammed Yahaya,Representative of the Swiss Government and management of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for a courtesy called at the Government house damaturu.

Bunu stated that, Yobe state is one of the states devastated by the Boko Haram Insurgency in the North East, with Gujba Local Government area as one of the severest affected areas in the state. A lot of people were killed, others maimed while those who survived lived a traumatized life as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and lost their means of livelihood. Several public and private structures were also lost to the insurgency.

He appreciated the efforts of the federal government, the gallant security forces and the complementary role of the local vigilante groups in restoring security across the state.

"It is gratifying that as of today, all the displaced communities in the state, except Mallundunari community in Gujba local government area, have returned and resettled. This was facilitated by the reconstruction of infrastructure including the Local Government Secretariats,Police Stations, Hospitals, Schools, Water facilities, Markets and other public structures carried out by the State Government and supported by some development partners.

"I,therefore, want to seize this opportunity to sincerely appreciate the support and intervention we received from partners in support of our Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery drive because the magnitude of the destruction inflicted on the various communities is quite enormous and far beyond what the finances of the State Government alone could contain.

"The interventions by the UNDP are indeed strategic to this administration’s commitment to the recovery process and the restoration of lasting peace in the insurgency crisis-affected communities and the State at large. I have regularly been briefed on the good work the UNDP is doing in the humanitarian and other aspects of development.

The Governor therefore appreciated  UNDP, the North East Development Commission and all other partners for the various interventions in several communities and the continuous funding of the ongoing partnerships with the Yobe State Government.

"I want to reassure our partners that this administration is always ready to mobilize resources and provide the enabling environment to scale up our collective support and interventions towards the attainment of our goals in the areas of peace-building, reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery programme.

"Our goals as a government in the post-conflict recovery and stabilization project include the generation of applicable policies and programmes geared towards the short, medium, and long-term stabilization and development of communities, restoration of basic infrastructure, and economic empowerment of the local communities to address the root causes of the crisis and enhance resilience"he added.
