Scholarship Awards Double in Yobe: 28,346 Students Set to Receive Support for 2025/2026

The Yobe State Government has commenced the disbursement of domestic scholarships and bursaries for the 2025/2026 academic session, featuring a landmark 100% increase in financial aid for all beneficiaries.
Approved by Governor Mai Mala Buni, the initiative will directly benefit 28,346 indigenes studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Scholarship Board (YSSB), Dr. Kagu Abubakar, officially flagged off the exercise in Damaturu on behalf of the state government.
Dr. Kagu announced that Governor Buni has authorized a full doubling of all previous scholarship rates.Under the new structure, Postgraduate (PGDE, Masters, PhD) students will receive ₦110,000 (up from ₦55,000).
"Undergraduate students will receive ₦46,000 (up from ₦23,000), and HND, NCE & National Diploma students will receive ₦34,000 (up from ₦17,000).
"Students in other Diploma and Certificate programmes will receive ₦26,000 (up from ₦13,000)",said Dr.Kagu
According to him,the increment is in recognition of the prevailing economic realities and the rising cost of education across the country.
He described the intervention as one of the most significant of its kind by any state government in recent years.
"Yobe State University leads with the highest number of beneficiaries, recording 7,636 successful applicants—a figure that reflects the institution's growth and rising enrolment of state indigenes," said Dr. Kagu.
