Historic Transition: Prof. Tahir Assumes Office as Yobe University's 5th Vice Chancellor

By Yusuf A Yusuf, Damaturu  Yobe State University (YSU) in Damaturu inaugurated Professor Muhammad Bashir Tahir as its fifth substantive Vice Chancellor on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.  In his address, Professor Tahir outlined a leadership approach focused on continuity,academic excellence, and accountability.  He pledged to strengthen the university’s academic and administrative systems through inclusive governance and collective responsibility. “We are grateful to Almighty Allah for this opportunity to serve and appreciate the confidence placed in us by the Executive Governor of Yobe State, the Governing Council, and the search team,” stated Professor Tahir. Stakeholders Convene as Yobe APC Launches Grassroots Mobilization Toward E-Registration

The directive was issued by State Party Chairman Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka during a critical strategy session in Damaturu with leaders from all 17 local government areas.  The meeting focused on crafting a grassroots plan to dramatically increase registrations. Gov. Buni Approves New Vice-Chancellor for Yobe State University

By Yusuf A. Yusuf, Damaturu Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University, Damaturu. The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, Esq., and made available to journalists in Damaturu on Friday. According to the statement, the Governor’s approval followed the recommendation of the University’s Governing Council, which was reached during an extraordinary meeting held earlier that day. The statement also highlighted the appointee's distinguished background, noting that "Prof. Mohammed Bashir Tahir is a Professor of General Surgery and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons.
