The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, Esq., and made available to journalists in Damaturu on Friday. According to the statement, the Governor’s approval followed the recommendation of the University’s Governing Council, which was reached during an extraordinary meeting held earlier that day. The statement also highlighted the appointee's distinguished background, noting that "Prof. Mohammed Bashir Tahir is a Professor of General Surgery and a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons.
