Yobe SEMA briefs Journalists on flood disaster preparedness plans

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has reported that 4,521 households across the state have been impacted by a devastating series of severe weather events this year 2025. The Executive Secretary of YOSEMA,Dr. Mohammad Goje,disclosed this figure on Monday during a press briefing on the state's flood disaster and preparedness plans. Dr. Goje outlined a chronological progression of the disasters,which began with a destructive windstorm.This was followed by periods of windy rainfall,which transitioned into heavy rainfall, and ultimately resulted in widespread flooding. He further stated that from the end of August into September and October, communities situated near riverbanks became increasingly at risk due to rising water levels and discharge. Police Rescue Kidnapped Toddler, Arrest Suspect in Yobe Operations

On July 31, 2025, a 2-year-old toddler, Abdulkareem Mohammed,was kidnapped in Potiskum,and his father, Mohammed Ishayaku, received a ransom demand of N2 million. In a statement on Thursday,SP Dungus Abdulkarim, Police Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force,Yobe State Command,said swift police action led to the rescue of the child and the arrest of one suspect, Abdullahi Aliyu, aged 24,from Kakuri, Kaduna State. The statement added that,the suspect was traced and apprehended in Kaduna State after investigation revealed his involvement in similar incidents in other states. Founded in 2005 by Hajiya Inna Mai Bukar, former Education Secretary and former Caretaker Committee Chairperson of Machina Local Government Area, the boarding school aimed to educate and train children in science and technology. It began with 90 pupils. The school initially discontinued its boarding operations due to a change in local government administration and other circumstances. However, approximately three years ago, it resumed boarding status, facilitated by the Local Government Council under Alhaji Bukar A. Bukar and local philanthropists. Tumsah Delivers N200,000 Cash Support to Accident Victim in Yobe

  Philanthropist Barr. Kashim Musa Tumsah has provided N200,000 in cash support to Muazu Mohammad Bukar,an accident victim receiving treatment for significant injuries including hand fractures at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) in Damaturu.   Muazu was involved in an accident in Benin,Edo State, after sleeping under a stationary trailer. Unaware of his presence,the driver crushed the victim’s right side as the vehicle started moving.   The victim’s mother, Zara Abdullahi,(Aunty Yana) received the assistance on behalf of her son through Dr. Hassan Gimba;the cash was delivered by Sa’adatu Maina.Zara explained that Muazu had traveled to Benin to seek livelihood opportunities before the accident occurred.   She added,"He was brought back to Potiskum for medical treatment last month, in July.I spent all I had and could not afford his second surgery,so I reached out to Dr. Hassan Gimba for help. Gov.Buni to honour Nafisa,Rukayya int'l winners of English lang skills and debate

By Yusuf A Yusuf, Damaturu  Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved a grand ceremony to honour 17 year old Nafisa Abdullah and 15 year old Rukayya Muhammad Fema for emerging World best in English language skills and overall debate competitions  respectively at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.  Nafisa and Rukayya, both from Yobe state, are students of the Nigerian Tulip International College,  who reprepresented Nigeria at the World competition to beat other 20,000 participants from 69 countries. Nafisa and Rukayya both  beneficiaries of the Gov. Mai Mala Buni's scholarship programme covering full tuition for 890 students at the Nigeria Tulip International College.  Gov.
